Travel

Plane

Welcome to the Occitanie Region in France!

There are several routes you can take to get to Chateau St Pierre de Serjac. Below is some information to help you chose the right travel for you, especially if you plan to make a stop before the wedding weekend or continue your travels afterwards.

Robert & Kelly's recommendation:
1) Fly into either Barcelona or Montpellier, then take a train or rent a car to arrive to Béziers/Puissalicon where the chateau is located
2) If you plan to explore the south of France, fly into Marseille to visit the adorable towns in Provence before taking a train or driving west to Béziers/Puissalicon
3) Fly into another part of Europe or France to explore, then book a separate intra-Europe flight to Beziers via EasyJet or Ryanair (*typically very inexpensive flights however be mindful of luggage fees!)

Driving distances from airports:
Béziers - 30 minutes
Montpellier - 1hr
Toulouse - 2hrs
Marseille - 2hr 45 minutes
Barcelona - 3hrs

We hope to organize shuttles, so as you decide your travel plans please let us know the dates and locations you will be flying in/out of.

Car

"Should I rent a car or take the train?"

A very good question and the answer should be determined by your particular circumstances. A few factors we recommend you consider:

- Speed limits are much more enforced in France than in the US. Strict policemen are a French classic.
- Expect to pay tolls when using French highways. We estimate ~10-20€ for a trip from one of the main cities referenced (Marseille, Toulouse, etc.). Credit cards are accepted. Paying for roads is a European classic.
- Trains are often delayed. Whether construction, mechanical issues, or labor strikes. Strikes are a French classic.
- When taking trains, it is best if you are able to carry all of your luggage up and down stairs as well as in and out of the train car efficiently. Stairs are a European classic.

To book trains: SNCF Connect
To book rental cars: Hertz, Enterprise, Sixt, Avis, Europcar, Alamo

Note

Kelly & Robert's favorite tips while traveling in France

- When paying for anything in France, always select the option to pay in EUR. Your credit card will do the conversion for you and the CC networks provide the best exchange rates.
- Always say "bonjour" or "bonsoir" first if you want any French person to be friendly to you.
- Don't expect a lot of ice in your drinks. If you want ice, be sure to ask for it when you order a beverage. But even so, keep your expectations low.
- In addition to plug adapters, please be mindful of voltage conversions. Ladies (and Robert), be careful with hair tools. Check that your device has dual voltage. The label should say either "100-240V" or "110-220V" to be considered dual voltage. **Dyson Airwraps are NOT dual voltage. You will harm your very expensive device if you try to use it in France.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

Do we dress like this all the time?

Yes, especially when its raining or we are fishing for lobsters :)

What should I wear?

Please see our Schedule for the dress code!

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to the south of France! The weather in June will be warm. During the day, the weather in Béziers should be beautiful, averaging 80 degrees during the day, but will get to the 60s at night.

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including them in the ceremony or reception. However, we recognize that some of you will be traveling with your kids, so please know they are welcome at the Friday cocktail reception and Sunday brunch! We will also be providing a babysitting service at the venue during the ceremony if you cannot find other accommodations for them. Please reach out if you have questions!

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

The ceremony will be in the grassed grounds of the Chateau and the paths throughout are gravel, so we'd strongly suggest you leave the stiletto pumps at home! We encourage block heels, wedges, or sandals.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

We respectfully request that guests put away their phones and cameras during the ceremony as professional photos will be taken. For the rest of the day, feel free to snap away but we ask that everyone avoid posting any photos of us on social media before we have the chance to do so ourselves.

Where will I be staying?

There is a selection of double rooms in the chateau itself and shared villas within the surrounding grounds.
We've worked through the room list to ensure everyone is accommodated in the most suitable manner for accessibility/proximity for families. If you're in a shared villa, rest assured this will be with close friends or family. All of the accommodation is stunning regardless of room type!

Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?

All of the days are on site at the Chateau. On the updated RSVPs we've asked a series of questions regarding transportation to and from the airport, please ensure you've provided this information so we can look into shuttle options.

When and What additional expenses will I need to pay?

We have tried to keep this as simple as possible. The accommodation costs are 299 euro/night per room.

We will be hosting a welcome dinner on Friday, the wedding on Saturday :) and a brunch on Sunday. For ease of our guests we have worked to subsidize all other meals throughout the weekend. There is a subsidized meal fee charge of 60 euro pp. which will cover all other breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

Our venue will be in contact via the email address provided during the RSVP with request for this payment as we get closer to the wedding. Please note that it will be requested in euros.

There seem to be some new travel requirements in the euro zone coming in 2025. I wish a Dad could break it down for me.

Well you're in luck! Mr. Lynn McNeal has done the research so you don't have to:

Travel through the UK:
The new ETA visa applies even to those just passing through airports. Heathrow and Manchester airports have temporary exemptions. It costs £10 ($13)

There are expensive look-alike sites, so use this link: : apply-for-an-eta.homeoffice.gov.uk/apply/electronic-travel-authorisation/easier-on-the-app

You'll need a passport, yourself (including babies) and a phone to make the various scans and photos. Note, the chip in the USA passport is in the back cover.

ETIAS, European visa, should not impact visitors this June. There is still confusion about the new visa requirement for those who do not have European passports.
ETIAS is currently not in operation and will not start in the first half of 2025, so no action is required from travelers at this point.
